A large portion of my work is made up of commissioned portraits, specifically pets on their own or people with their pets. I work in a realistic style using a combination of watercolour and coloured pencil to create an original piece of art, individually tailored for each client.

On this page, I have posted a brief overview of the commission process and my current rate chart. If you are interested in a commissioned peice, please contact me with any additional questions and/or for current commission rates.

COMMISSIONING A PORTRAIT; A Quick Overview

INITIAL CONSULTATION
I begin any potential project with an open discussion, answering any questions a client may have and explaining the portrait process further. If the client feels that I am the artist for them, then we proceed with a deposit payment, contract, and discussion of photo reference.

REFERENCE PHOTOS
I work from photos, which the client provides [All photos are returned], or I can meet with the client and portrait 'subjects' for a mini photo shoot and take photos.

PAINTING
For a simple portrait, I begin the final painting straight away. With a more complex painting, I prefer to render a pencil sketch for client approval before proceeding with the final portrait.

COMPLETION TIMES
Painting times differ according to size and complexity, but most pieces can be finished within a 2-6 week time frame. Progress reports/photos will be sent to the client via the internet.

DELIVERY
Whenever possible, I try to deliver paintings directly to clients. When shipping is required, a painting will be sent via Canada Post with deliver in 4-7 business days. This shipping is included in the commission pricing.
If faster service is needed, I am more than willing to utilize a courier company, but extra delivery costs will be the responsibility of the client.

FRAMING
Portraits are not framed, but professional framing can easily be arranged upon request.

RATES AND PAYMENT PROCEDURE

A non-refundable 25% deposit is due upon placing a commission with the balance payable upon delivery/shipment. Payment plans can be arranged and Gift Certificates are also available.

MINIATURE PORTRAITS

I am currently introducing Miniature animal portraits. A true miniature is a painting that has all the elelments of a large work of art; composition, color, detail and smooth brushstokes,; but all in miniature form --I use a magnifying glass to paint! While they actually are fun for me to do, I am finding that is a good change for people as the framing is more affordable, plus less wall space needed for display. Or alternatively, you can display the painting on a fancy little easel on a side table or desk.
